  1. Diagnosis

Are the tools that underlie efficient learning and are needed to support a child’s success in classroom, in place?

To ascertain if or to what extent a child may be experiencing dyslexia and/or other comorbid learning difficulties, to identify and deliver multisensory individualised remediation, Butterfly-Effect Teaching examines the following key-domains:

  • Neuromotor development

The Maze of Learning manual from Fit to Learn UK and a screening test are being employed to ascertain possible weaknesses in related to the physiological foundations of all later learning:

  • Primitive Reflexes

  • Core/Strength balance

  • Sound

  • Vision

  • Hand-eye perception

  • Pencil grip

  • Postural control

The duration of this test is approximately 20 minutes. Contact us to book your test now.

The Tomatis Listening Test (TLT)

The TLT is a powerful assessment device that measures the individual’s perception of frequencies through bone and air conduction and is used to establish a listening curve for each individual relative to her or his listening thresholds.

It further aims to determine how the individual communicates with others. The test is consisted of a series of subtests, the synthesis of which, results in the elaboration of curves known as 'listening profile'. This listening profile is specific to each person’s skills and performance.

What is the process of the Listening Test?

  • The client is presented with acoustic stimuli through headphones that transmit sound by both air and bone conduction

  • Response to stimuli is tested either manually or orally – depending on the individual’s profile

  • Each ear is tested thoroughly

  • The test takes approximately 15 minutes

  • Data is digitally compiled by the Tomatis Consultant at the Tomatis Clinic, Sydney NSW

  • Upon completion and based on the results, we design an Individualised Plan of Action (For further information you may see Auditory Processing Protocol, TOMATIS®/TALKSUP® section).

If you are interested in finding out more about the testing phase and/or to book your assessment, you may contact us here.

  • Visual processing

A series of basic eye-screening exercises are being administered in order to determine and identify possible learning-related Vision weaknesses, i.e. binocular vision. An Optometric Management Protocol is being compiled and the client may be referred to a Behavioural Optometrist for some further specialised support.

Dyslexia Screening Test (DST)

The DST is a research reliable and valid instrument designed to provide a profile of strengths and weaknesses. It is utilised to guide the identification and development of a structured linguistic program in support of a child with specific learning difficulties. It is powerful in that it collects data from 12 domains, related to dyslexia:

  • Phonemic Segmentation

  • Reading

  • Spelling

  • Handwriting

  • Postural Stability

  • Hand-eye coordination

  • Single word decoding including real and pseudo-words

  • Speed decoding

  • Verbal Fluency

  • Semantic Fluency

  • Rhyme

  • Vocabulary

Upon completion of the DST, results are being analysed and a report is written that elaborates on:

  • Individual scoring & Profile

  • At-Risk Quotient, relative to children in the same age band

  • Areas of strength and weakness

  • Implications of DST scores

  • Implications for dyslexia

  • Recommendations for schooling

  • Classroom accommodations

  • Suggested resources for home practice
