NEUROPSYCHODYNAMIC CONSULTATION & MENTORING
integrating neuroscience, attachment and psychodynamic understanding of development
Butterfly-Effect Teaching delivers specialised consultation and mentoring services through an interactive platform, integrating neuroscientific insight with a psychodynamic approach, all thoughtfully designed to support your learning and development from the comfort of your desk.
neuropsychodynamic CONSULTATION & MENTORING
A neuropsychodynamic consultation offers an integrative approach to understanding children and families through both a neurobiological and emotional-relational lens.
It draws on neuroscience, psychodynamic theory and developmental psychology to explore how brain function, nervous system regulation, attachment experiences, transgenerational trauma, and unconscious emotional processes interact to shape learning, behaviour, relationships and overall, homeostasis.
The aim is to develop a comprehensive, developmentally informed understanding of the individual, recognising that neurophysiological functioning and emotional experience are deeply interconnected.
aREAS OF ExplorATION
A neuropsychodynamic consultation may include exploration of:
Neurodevelopmental history (i.e. Neurosensorimotor development, sensory processing)
Personal psychodynamic history (i.e. personality structure, recurring relational patterns)
Emotional symptoms (i.e. anxiety, depression, dissociation, affect dysregulation)
Trauma history and attachment experiences (i.e. transgenerational dynamics within the family system)
Cognitive functioning (i.e. attention, memory, executive function, learning difficulties)
Stress regulation and autonomic nervous system responses (i.e. sleep, neurodevelopmental conditions)
The relationship between brain processes and subjective emotional experience
The symbolic and emotional meaning of symptoms
Integration of psychodynamic and brain-based explanations
As an example, a profile marked by chronic emotional overwhelm, might be discussed not only through the lens of unconscious conflict, but also in relation to:
Dysregulation of the autonomic nervous system
Trauma-related stress responses
Difficulties in attention, executive functioning, or learning
The neurobiological impact of prolonged stress exposure
Assessment pathway (if no diagnosis is currently present)
If you do not currently hold a diagnosis you may choose to undertake a comprehensive assessment battery designed to identify strengths and areas of difficulty across domains implicated in learning and homeostatic functioning.
These may include:
Neurosensorimotor development
Visual and auditory processing
Language and linguistic functioning
Learning and cognitive profiles
Following assessment, results are analysed and a comprehensive report is provided.
On the basis of these findings, a neuropsychodynamic, multisensory, individualised action plan is developed. This includes:
Clear, structured semester goals
Targeted developmental and learning priorities
A broader longitudinal framework outlining developmental progression and therapeutic direction.
INTERVENTION PHASE
Consultation and/or mentoring commences, guided by the individualised plan. This process aims to support integration across cognitive, emotional, relational and neurophysiological domains, with attention to both immediate goals and longer-term developmental trajectories.
Who this is for
This service may be relevant for children and adolescents experiencing:
Learning difficulties or uneven developmental profiles
Attention, memory, or executive functioning challenges
Emotional or behavioural regulation difficulties
Trauma-related presentations
Attachment and relational difficulties
Sensory processing or integration challenges
It is also suitable for families seeking deeper, integrative understanding of their own or their child’s developmental profile.
CONTACT
If you and/or your child are experiencing challenges that may be limiting the unfolding of full developmental potential and wish to access neuropsychodynamic consultation or mentoring services, you are welcome to get in touch.
